Smokes and Mirrors is a metaphor for a deceptive, fraudulent or insubstantial explanation or description. The source of the name is based on magicians' illusions, where magicians make objects appear or disappear by extending or retracting mirrors amid a distracting burst of smoke.
Life is also like smokes and mirrors. It is an illusion. While life is showing you a trick, the magic is really happening somewhere else. Just when you think, you are sad and upset and you cannot fathom as to why this is happening to you, life is creating the magic somewhere else. In the movie "Now You See Me," Daniel Atlas says,"The closer you think you are, the less you'll actually see."
Similarly in life, the more you try to question life, the more you try to dig deeper, the less you will actually discover. Sometimes you need to look at your situation and say,"OK" and back away. You need to look as far as years behind to actual discover why you are here today. Your past makes your present and your future, you yet have to make. Life isn't the only magician. You are too. So mutter the magic words and trick life. Confuse it and challenge it.
